Web Site Standards  (United States)

Ok let's get this ball rolling.  We want to brainstrom the standards.  Here is some of the stuff we have alread talked about.

Footer:

  1. Date last updated
  2. Copyright statement
  3. Funding source statement

Navigation:

  1. Home button

Branding:

  1. UTMB , with logo ? with link to the UTMB web site
  2. East Texas AHEC with logo? with link to ET AHEC web site

OK.  This is a beginning.  Please add your ideas.  :-)  Mary

Re: Web Site Standards  (United States)

We didn't include Header

Header

1.   Logo, if project has one, such as iahec, or pandemic flu
2.   Determine if partner logo goes on header, or under a tab
3.   Standard color?
4.   New style often has left standard border with fold-out tabs, do we want that?
5.   Style of header tabs is important.  See fyiahec.org and iahec.

Re: Web Site Standards  (United States)

I am currently working on the draft version of "Maintenance Review and maintenance process for exisiting sites:  Update, Consolidate, Incorporate; Remove: Transfer."  I wanted to share my interpretation of the following to make sure we are all on the same page.

Update: ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of the information presented; regularly updating and keeping published information cuurrent.

Consolidate:  joining together two or more webpages that may contain the same inforation

Incorporate:  to unite or work special projects into something already existent so as to form an indistinguishable whole

Remove: delete or incapacitate obsolete web pages/sites

Transfer:  to move or shift the control of a web page/site

Please let me know what you think.  Thanks!!

Re: Web Site Standards  (United States)
Thanks Mary. I need the evening to think about what to post. I'll post it first thing in the morning. Kelly

We are looking for standards by which we will do all of what you mentioned below.  I see us using these standards as checklists for reviewing all those websites we have identified.  And they will be the foundation for new developments as well. Does that help?

Mary,  Before I can contribute, I need clarification please….what is the purpose of the standards we are writing? Are they to redesign the existing websites? To use as a template for people developing new websites?  For us to use as a template for our new DCO website?  Thanks, Kelly

Re: Web Site Standards  (United States)

Debbie,

The document makes a good beginning for our web sites classification ‘taxonomy.’  It has some pertinent notes in there too.  Thanks.

PS I word processed this message then copied and pasted it in the forum.  (I’m more comfortable using the Word editor.  J ) Mary

Re: Web Site Standards  (United States)

The following are the UTMB Pulbic Affairs standard.

Required Elements for Sites Published from or Linked to UTMB Internet Servers

The following elements need to be included on each official page hosted on UTMB servers or linked to UTMB pages.  A low-impact template for a page footer that  meets these state and university requirements is available.

  • The name and contact information of the primary “owner” of a web site

  • Copyright designation with identification/affiliation with UTMB and link to UTMB home page (Example: Copyright © 2000 The University of Texas Medical Branch)

  • A link to these guidelines, which describes the UTMB policies regarding the web and contains an email address to which comments may be sent

  • Date of creation or most recent revision of the document or site

  • State-required links

  • Link to UTMB’s privacy policy

In addition, pages must incorporate:

Re: Web Site Standards  (United States)

I've setup a template site at http://dco.etxahec.org/. We can incorporate all ideas here to the template site as a guideline for the future sites.
