Marketing Pieces  (United States)

We have all enjoyed Darnell's work when we have needed marketing pieces, brochures, etc., but now her role is changing and we will need to do them ourselves. Way back in the day I learned how to cut and paste clip art over into a word document and make a passable party invitation. Today's needs require much more finese. I just noticed that I have MS-Publisher in my suite, though I haven't a clue as to how to use it. I'm going to mess around with it at home and see if I can figure it out. If not, I'll look for a new program, ala PhotoShop or something. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Ditto on information regarding cheap or no cost training seminars.

The Program Office is going to catalog and upload logos and pictures and such that we use, to a central location. If you have something like that that you have improved, or obtained, please contact Laurie and ask her where you should send it.

Re: Marketing Pieces  (United States)

Jim,

I made a brochure last year for a recruiting event at UTMB for their medical students, and I had to send it to Darnell for approval before I could distribute it.  Is she still responsible for proofing and approving marketing pieces (such as anything I produce for R&R), or is someone else?

Thx,

hp

Good question. I wasn't aware that she served in that capacity. I'll ask Mary and get back to you.

Regarding marketing piece approval Mary says....  (United States)

Good question. Darnell has helped us develop marketing standards. She does not have approval authority but is a great resource for feedback. Darnell volunteers a lot and will probably be willing to continue to give feedback. I have asked Debbie to help with coordinating (not developing) marketing. She may help with the feedback loop also.

Also, Darnell writes,.... "Think of me as just another set of eyes when you need them".

So, who do we need to send our marketing materials to for R&R?

Re: Regarding marketing piece approval Mary says....  (United States)

I think you need to send it to your printer. That's what I understood from the staff meeting. I am about to go take a PageMaker training so that I can now do my own. Does Pineywoods have PageMaker or any publishing type software? Isn't Kinnie proficient in one of them? If so, you might ask for a copy of the software for your computer and a tutorial in how to use it. I'm also assuming that I will be an instant PageMaker wiz and I'll be a resource for you too.

But don't bet a lot of money on that one yet...

Re: Regarding marketing piece approval Mary says....  (United States)

Jim,

Aren't you just a ham today?  I am not implying that someone needs to do my marketing pieces for me or print them.  I do have several software packages on my computer, I have already begun working on a few things I want to distribute.  I just recall being told that the program office needs to okay things before we start distributing anything.  Just trying to follow the rules....not be a slacker.  :)

Re: Regarding marketing piece approval Mary says....  (United States)

Never meant to imply such a thing. I know you works hard for da money. I was afraid that I was about to go under the radar by doing my own, which was the direction from the staff meeting. Unlike you I DID get someone else to do mine. Now I'm learning how to do my own. As for approval, the way I understand it, and correct me if I'm wrong Mary, only your center director need approve stuff that goes out with your name and logo on it.

Peace out : )
